Rural climate & livelihoods
Nirvana Carbon Solutions is a social enterprise transforming agricultural waste management across the global south, one smallholder farmer at a time. Our first programme is underway in rural India.
The problem
Across the plains of northern India, the crop residue left after harvest has nowhere to go.
Burning it is the cheapest option available to a smallholder farmer, but it strips the soil, harms the health of entire regions, and locks families into choices that reward only the short term. Managing that waste well is an economic problem before it is an environmental one, and that is exactly where a solution can take hold.
Our approach
We work alongside farmers to convert agricultural waste into TerraOasis, a proprietary blend with industrial uses across the value chain. Returned to the land, it helps soil hold water and nutrients, and it creates paid work in the season when rural incomes are thinnest.
Every decision starts with the smallholder farmer and the land they steward, not the other way around.
New, skills-based roles created locally, with a focus on women, in the low-income window after the harvest.
A real alternative to burning that keeps carbon in the ground and particulates out of the air people breathe.
Our mission
To cultivate creative, economically sustainable ways of reducing emissions that can be replicated and scaled across developing economies.
Our vision
A future where green capital and technology flow from developed nations to the global south, in service of a genuinely shared path to net zero.
Get involved
Your support funds the work that makes stopping the burn worthwhile, from training to on-the-ground roles, and keeps the land and the people who tend it whole.
